Emergency Food:
Meal in a Jar

Prepper food isn’t just for Preppers

One of the biggest advantages of creating these meals is that you get to do it yourself. By going this DIY route, you have total control over what ingredients are included in the meal. This makes jar meals perfect for anyone with special dietary needs or restrictions. You can custom-make these meals to follow a Keto diet, to remain low-carb, to be vegetarian, vegan, to follow the carnivore diet, to match the needs of those with diabetes, and much more. You can easily start with a recipe that has already been created, and you can make minor adjustments to suit your needs. Maybe you prefer more seasoning, more spice, more vegetables – you can make them into exactly what you enjoy. It’s super easy, and FUN, to create new recipes that you and your family will love!

Let’s face it, the typical food most people think of when it comes to emergency food isn’t very good. Often it doesn’t have much flavor, and usually contains even less nutrition.

Most people think of:

  • Beans and Rice – bland and boring
  • Canned Goods – full of preservatives and salt
  • Emergency Buckets – overpriced and lacking in nutrition

It’s not exactly the type of food you would want to eat everyday, am I right?

But imagine keeping food on hand that is delicious and nutritious for everyday meals, in addition to emergencies. Imagine keeping an emergency food supply full of food that you will actually want to eat! Imagine the possibilities that presents!

I bet you’re wondering, “How can you have healthy, delicious food on hand AND have it be shelf stable?”

The key here is freeze dried food. And even more specifically, freeze dried food assembled into “Meal in a Jar” form.

#1 – Quick and easy meals

The magic behind a Meal in a Jar is that, for most of these recipes, you can simply empty the contents into a pan, add water, and heat for just a few minutes. This makes it easy for anyone in the family to cook a delicious, healthy meal in very little time. It’s the perfect solution for busy evenings! And during an emergency, when you’ll likely be without electricity and many of the basics required to create a meal, Meals in a Jar allow you to conserve fuel and time. They also eliminate the stress of thinking, “What should I make for dinner?”

#2 – Right on the shelf

The industry standard for freeze dried food is that it has a 25 year shelf life. It requires no refrigeration and no preservatives to achieve this. By lining up a dozen, two dozen, or even more empty jars, you can create hundreds of these meals in assembly-line fashion, in very little time. You can have a pantry full of meals in no time, and you’ll feel good about rotating through your inventory. Just because they have a long shelf life, doesn’t mean they have to sit there and collect dust. It’s a great feeling knowing that these jar meals are ready to go whenever you need them!

#3 – Packed full of nutrition

Because you assemble a Meal in a Jar yourself, you know for certain what is going into it. You know there are no preservatives, no chemicals, and no fillers. Plus, you know there isn’t a bunch of sugar or salt added. Freeze dried food is real food, not processed food. It simply has had the moisture removed in order to preserve it. That means all of the nutrients and all of the flavor remain in the food for years and years to come.  And what could be better than getting all of the nutrients of fresh food, but without any risk of it going bad?

Remember: not all freeze dried food is treated equally!

A meal in a jar is only as nutritious and as clean as the ingredients you choose to create it with. Though there aren’t many options available on the market today, as freeze drying is a complicated and expensive process, you’ll want to be certain you are purchasing ingredients that are of the highest quality available. If you’re taking the time to create a pantry full of jars, please make sure the ingredients you’re using are top-notch. Much of this is dependent upon where the food is sourced originally, and how it is cared for and treated throughout the freeze drying process.
